Joel Nelson Lipscomb -- 1923-2016

Joel Nelson Lipscomb, born December 20, 1923 in Gonzales, passed away on September 5, 2016 at his home in McKinney. He served in US ARMY Air Forces, European Theater during WWII and received the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a graduate of Southwest Texas State College, 1951; and, University of Houston, 1964. He worked as a Research Chemist and Registered Pharmacist; and, was a 50-year member Lipscomb; and daughter-in-law Palma of Georgia. Graveside Military Service at Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales, will be October 1,2016 at 2 p.m.John, of Gonzales; sisters Dorothy Davis, Elizabeth Moffet and Florence Ridgeway; brother, Victor Hugo; son, George Lipscomb; and daughter-in-law Palma of Georgia. Graveside Military Service at Masonic Cemetery in Gonzales, will be October 1,2016 at 2 p.m.

Carol Jean Hawes

Carol Jean “Jeanie” Hawes was born February 17, 1943 in Freeport, TX to Lloyd Clark “Buck” and Mary Nell (Goode) Hawes. Throughout her life she was a waitress, x-ray technician, store manager and a veterinarian technician. In addition to her many jobs she was always Mama and Granny. On August 15, 2016 Carol was preceded in death by her father Lloyd Clark “Buck” and mother Mary Nell (Goode) Hawes. She is survived by her daughters Marti (Daniel) Roegner of Liberty Hill, TX; Pamela (LAKE) Webb of Leander, TX; Amy Pettus of Gonzales, TX; her sons William (Roni) Stricker of Spring, TX; and Henry (Marlene) Pettus of Seguin, TX, also her two sisters, two brothers and 11 grandchildren. Memorial service will be at 4P.M. on September 4, 2016 at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 112 West Adams Avenue, Port O’Conner, TX 77982.

Shirley Jean Dozier -- 193-2016

Shirley Jean Dozier, 83, of Gonzales, passed away, Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was born January 19, 1933 in Climax, Georgia, the daughter of Andy and Odessa Bailey Dragoin. She married Marcellus Cosby Dozier Jr. June 11, 1963 in Midland City, Alabama. She was a homemaker, a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and the Belmont Ladies Club. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, loved dogs especially poodles, enjoyed reading, crocheting and collecting angels and cookbooks. She is survived by daughter Lisa Sue Speed and husband Thomas of Liverpool, England; step-daughters Michelle Lee Kimsey and husband Edward of Vail, AZ and Dawn Renee Deppe and husband Richard of Washington, MO; sons Gerald Bruce Long of Tallahassee, FL, Walter Anthony “Sonny” Long and wife September of Victoria, TX and William James Long of Adel, GA; brother William Dragoin and wife Carlanda of Americus, GA; 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren.
