East Avenue Post Office again sharing the love for great cause
East Avenue Elementary School is sponsoring their American Heart Association Post Office this year beginning January 30th and going through February 13th. The Post Office is located in the 1st Grade hallway at East Avenue and will be opened every morning from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m.
Stamps will sell for five cents each and the money will be donated to the American Heart Association.

Chabot-Gray engagement announced
Mr. and Mrs. John Chabot of Smithville, Texas, announce the engagement of their daughter, Carra Chabot to Daniel Gray, son of James and Ellen Gray of Gonzales, Texas. Miss Chabot is also the daughter of the late, Natalie Chabot.
GJH dramatists earn superior rating
Gonzales Junior High’s cast and crew of “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” earned a Superior rating at the one-act play contest held Saturday, Jan. 14 at Industrial High School.
A’lora Rother and Kendra Cavitt earned individual honorable mention awards for crew. Supporting cast awards were earned by Cristian Grifaldo, Brianna Perez, Jeremiah Cantu, Ashleigh Haub, Abby Duwel, Delsia Maldonado, and Eli Whitescarver.
Women’s Study Club holds annual business meeting
The Woman’s Study Club met in the home of Rev. Diana Whitley on Jan. 11 for its annual business meeting. President Jean Reese presided over the meeting, which included the election of officers for the coming 2012-2013 club year.
The new officers will be: President—Beverly Pirkle, Vice-president—Mary Louise Veselka, Secretary—Martha Jo Whitt, and Treasurer—Suzanne Vrana.
Hey, Baby! Celebrating the First Baby of 2011
Gonzales Healthcare Systems is proud to announce its first baby of 2012. He waited until after New Year’s Day, but the six-pound, fifteen ounce baby boy made his arrival at 2:04 p.m. Thursday Jan. 5th at Memorial Hospital, as the first baby born in Gonzales County in 2012. Chris Alverez was delivered by Christopher Walker, MD, born to mother Sara Garcia and father Angel Alverez. And while there was a tinge of excitement at Chris being the first baby of the New Year, mainly the family was grateful that he was healthy.
RRC Candidates to address Yoakum GOP
The Republican Women of Yoakum will hold their first meeting of the new year on January 4, 2012 at the Yoakum Community Center located at 105 Huck Street. Lunch is served at 11:45. There is no charge, but, donations are appreciated.

Art Group spreads holiday cheer
The Gonzales Art Group held their annual Christmas Luncheon at Tony’s on Saturday, Dec. 3.
There was a great turnout and the food was excellent. Most of the members were in attendance and some of them brought their family and other guests.
Each member was asked to bring art items for donation to the Santa’s Helpers and Norma’s House. There was a large box collected that was so full that there were several gift bags as well.
Moulton VFW Essay Winners
The winners of the Moulton VFW Post 6971’s Essay Contest were recognized on Dec. 11 during a dinner held at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Moulton. Pictured with post representative Steve Fojtik and auxiliary president Anna Bartos are the winners in the 6th-8th grade category (top): James Wenske - 1st place, $100 cash prize; Gage Darilek - 2nd place, $50; and Macie Simecek - 3rd place, $25.
