As a child I bought no school supplies until Junior High: the magic year that I could buy pencils, compasses, rulers, notebooks, etc. No backpacks; we carried our books proudly home in our arms. Seventh grade was also the first year of homework. We thought ourselves quite grown-up.
Students give us all reason to hope for the future
The common perception of junior high kids is that they are very self-centered and only concerned with the opinions of their friends. Well, let me share some unscientific evidence to the contrary.
Like all of the other teachers on the junior high campus, I teach a wide variety of students. Their backgrounds, interests, English-language levels and abilities are very different. But I have been made aware of something that they have in common.
