Waelder to host rabies clinic
The City of Waelder will host a Rabies vaccination clinic on June 19 between the hours of 1 and 5 p.m. to protect pets from rabies. The primary animals to be inoculated will be both dogs and cats, but other pets may be brought as well. All citizens are urged to bring their pet to the clinic to guard against the deadly rabies virus.
The clinic will be held at the Waelder Fire Station and the rabies vaccination will cost a minimal $8.00 for each animal. Other vaccines will be available as well for an additional cost if a pet owner wants other types of inoculations.
For any questions about the clinic, please contact Waelder City Hall at 830 788-7334 or the Waelder Police Department at 830 788-7270.
On May 13, the Waelder City Council met in a special session to discuss purchasing new bullet-proof vests for its police officers. The city’s previous policy was for its officers to provide his/her own vests for ballistic protection.
In a unanimous decision, the council voted to approve the purchase of level IIIA vests for all full-time officers. The council agreed that it was the city’s responsibility to provide the officers with the protection. The vests will cost between $600-$700 dollars each and will be custom fitted to each officer. The city should be reimbursed at a later date once the Homeland Security grant monies are distributed to Waelder.
Chief of Police Larry Stamps was quoted as saying “The City Council continues to support its police officers and seem dedicated to putting the police department well on its way to becoming a great law enforcement agency in the future”.
