New craft shop opens here
A new shop called Craft Crossing opened in downtown Gonzales this week, and it is creating quite a buzz with local crafters.
“I’m just excited that there is a real craft place here now,” said Darwina Gaytan, Pamela Malatek’s first customer on Monday morning. “It’s so far to drive to craft stores in big cities. This will be very convenient.”
Gaytan was in the store shopping with her granddaughter Daria Newton.
“The scrapbook papers are really cool and I like creating things so this will be fun to have in town,” said Newton.
That is exactly the response that store owner Pamela Malatek was hoping for.
“I always wanted a craft store so now I have taken my love of crafts to the next level,” said Malatek. “I’m at the point in my life when it will work.”
Malatek owned and operated a craft supply store in Pleasanton, Texas in the 1980s, and is looking forward to sharing her passion with others in the Gonzales area.
From beading to scrapbooking, Malatek said there is something for everyone.
“We will also be hosting craft classes here in the store,” she said. “I have several instructors lined up to cover different topics and we will have a schedule posted soon.”
The official grand opening of Craft Crossing is scheduled for February. In the meantime, Malatek said customers are invited to stop by and register for a door prize drawing. (See Craft Crossing coupon in this issue.)
