Waelder vet celebrates 90th birthday
On Saturday, April 24, Truman Parr of Waelder was honored with a big 90th birthday party at the Waelder Community Center. The party was given by Truman’s family. Immediate family members present were present were son David and Sandy Parr and their children Steven and Stacy Parr and son Chris; Brian and Christi Parr and daughter-in-law Cheryl Parr and her daughter Kimberly.
The come and go party was 1-5 p.m. Many friends and family, former co-workers of Truman and former co-workers of his late wife Frances Parr were on hand to help Truman celebrate. One special guest was Truman’s Aunt Joy Harris Parker (age 94) of Hallettsville and her son Billy.
There was Bar-B-Q with all the trimmings and the beautiful birthday cake to be enjoyed by all.
As guests entered, to the right was a beautifully decorated registration desk. The sign-in sheets were single sheets of decorated paper to save in the scrapbook that was prepared especially to save all his pictures, birthday cards and any other memorabilia from the party. More than 119 people registered and Truman has recieved over 30 cards from people that could not attend, but wishing him a great birthday. There was a lot of visitation and fellowship among all the guests. A great time was had by all and we all wish Truman many more birthdays.
Truman is one of the few remaining WWII veterans left living in the Waelder area.
