Texas Historical Commission to present preservation plan to city Thursday
The Texas Historical Commission will celebrate the achievements of the citizens of Gonzales by presenting the completed Gonzales Visionaries in Preservation (VIP) Action Plan to the city.
The event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 9 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gonzales Memorial Museum, located at 414 Smith Street.
State Senator Glenn Hegar, State Representative Edmund Kuempel and representatives from the Texas Historical Commission (THC) will present the completed plan to Gonzales Mayor Bobby O’Neal.
Members of the Bexar County Buffalo Soldiers and the Gonzales High School Brass Ensemble will participate in the ceremony, as well as local community organizations. The Gonzales Economic Development Corporation will host a reception following the presentation.
In the fall of 2009, Gonzales was selected to join the THC’s Visionaries in Preservation Program, which facilitates a series of community-based meetings empowering the citizens to host dynamic civic discussions regarding their goals for historic preservation.
THC works with communities and individuals, encouraging historic preservation to stimulate economic development, tourism and the revitalization of local historic downtown districts.
