'Stangs fall twice in district play

The Nixon-Smiley Mustangs continued to struggle in District 28-2A baseball action, falling Tuesday to Kenedy by a 12-1 score after dropping a 9-2 decision to Karnes City on Friday.
The Mustangs, 2-13 overall, committed six errors to spoil a fine pitching effort by Garrett Ruiz and Noel DeLeon, who teamed on the mound to allow just five hits.
Offensively, the Mustangs banged out six hits, with Chris Brothers and Derek Pawelek each rapping two. Ruiz added a single and Cody Box drove in Nixon’s lone run in the fifth inning.
In Friday’s action, Karnes City used a four-run fourth inning to subdue the Mustangs by a 9-2 count.
