Bloom where you鈥檙e planted
There is an old expression, “Bloom where you’re planted.” If you happen to be planted in the fertile soil of Gonzales, Texas, as I certainly am, then you will find that there is a lot of blooming to be done. It was just a few days ago that the sun beat down in late April fashion, taking my thoughts back to warmer days, beef kabobs on the grill, and an enticing breeze beckoning us out into the fresh air.
Memories of plunging my hands deep into the heated soil in the garden, lounging on the front porch steps with freshly squeezed lemonade, and perusing the various nurseries for new herbs and vegetables all came wafting back on that mild January breeze while playing a game of tennis. I have found that these precious breaks in the winter weather are just one of the many perks of living in Gonzales at this time of year.
And I think it is safe to say that the new year is in full swing. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. The Crystal Theater is hosting performances once again, Greg’s has undergone some major improvements, and the new Belmont Social Club is all my husband talks about. It is time to take out your calendar, call up your friends, make reservations, and start planning to take advantage of what Gonzales has to offer. Yes, San Marcos has a mega mall; Seguin has a movie theater. And all that is just fine on occasion. But there are certain things here that you just won’t find anywhere else. Let’s face it: Gonzales is an anomaly, it’s one-of-a-kind, and it’s ours. And that’s something to take advantage of.
So where will you be? Will I see you at the Crystal Theater taking in the performance, the petit fours, and bubbly? At the next banquet? Supporting the new restaurants? Trying Greg’s new lineup of cheesecake? I certainly hope so. The weather might be getting colder again, but the time to bloom is now.
