Burn ban back in Gonzales County
The Gonzales County Commissioners unanimously approved an immediate burn ban during court Monday morning. The ban goes into effect as of Tuesday, Feb. 15 at noon.
“It’s the wishes of all the fire departments (in Gonzales County) to put the burn ban back on,” said Keith Schmidt, County Fire Marshall. “The fire load is tremendous in the county and we need help keeping people from burning when they shouldn’t.”
Schmidt recalled a recent rural grass fire which required several fire trucks to assist.
“Some of the flames were ten feet high,” Schmidt said. “We’re lucky we haven’t had any serious losses yet.”
Gonzales County Judge David Bird said the ban will be in effect until further notice.
