Gonzales announces city manager finalists

The City of Gonzales announced the top three finalists for the full time city manager position.
Interim City Manager Charles Windwehen took the job on a temporary basis in February. Since then, the city council has been actively seeking a full time hire.
Windwehen announced last month that more than fifty people applied for the position, and the process of whittling down the list was going to take a few more weeks.
After discussing the applicants in several executive sessions, the council has named their top three finalists.
• Allen L. Barnes of Sachse, Texas. His professional experience includes: City manager of Sachse, Texas 2007-2011; City manager of Liberty, Texas 2002-2007; City administrator of Whitesboro, Texas 1985-1998; and Deputy Sheriff in Collin County, Texas 1985-1998.
Barnes’ education background includes a Master of Public Affairs degree from the University of Texas at Dallas, 1997; Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Texas at Dallas, 1993; Associate of Applied Science from Trinity Valley Junior College, 1980; Credentialed City Manager, International City/County Management Association, 2006 to present; and Certified Public Manager from Southwest Texas State University in 2000.
• Kyle J. Jung of Austin. His professional experience includes Interim city manager in Flatonia, 2011; City management consultant in Uhland, 2011; Consultant for the Texas City Management Association, 2011; Senior coordinator of the Texas Municipal League, 2000-2011; Affiliate services coordinator of the Texas Municipal League, 1998-2000; City manager of Sour Lake, 1995-1998; City management intern  in Lubbock, 1994-1995; City management intern in Big Spring, 1994; and teaching assistant/instructor at Texas Tech University, 1993-1994.
Jung’s education background includes a Master of Public administration degree from Texas State University, 1995; and Bachelor of arts from University of St. Thomas, 1989.
• Everett W. (Bo) Thomas of Page, Arizona. His professional experience includes City manager of Page, Arizona, 2002-2011; City manager of Hobbs, New Mexico, 1994-2002; Assistant City Manager of Hobbs, New Mexico, 1992-1994; and Risk manager for the city of Hobbs, New Mexico, 1988-1992.
Thomas’s education includes a Bachelors in business administration from New Mexico State University, 1984, and an Associate in science degree from Ranger Junior College, 1981.
The Gonzales City Council is scheduled to meet on Friday, Aug. 5 at 8 a.m., and Saturday, Aug. 6 at 8 a.m., at Gonzales City Hall to discuss the city manager search and interview the finalists. The meeting is open to the public prior to the scheduled executive session. The Cannon will continue to follow this story and post updates on our website as the selection process develops.
