Luling names Hensley as new athletic director
LULING -- Luling’s search for a new athletic director did not last too long.
The LISD school board voted to promote offensive coordinator Colby Hensley to the position at a special meeting Wednesday, according to Luling ISD Business Manager Stephanie Timms.
Hensley replaces former athletic director Michael Waldie, who resigned from the post last month for family reasons.
“This is a great opportunity. Luling is a great community and the kids are great,” Hensley said. “The expectations are high.”
Hensley came to Luling with Waldie and said he has the experience to make Luling competitive. He added he is appreciative of the community's support.
“The community felt good about the direction the sports programs were headed in,” Hensley said. “They wanted to keep the ship heading in the right direction.”
He said his goal as the athletic director is to make all of the sports programs extremely competitive
“I want to take the next step with the athletic program, and that is to make it a perennial playoff program,” Hensley said.
Hensley is also the Eagles’ head powerlifting coach.
In 2011, the Eagle football team was 4-6 and 2-3 in district, and the program also had plenty of success in all of the other sports as well.
