Harrison Blaxton DuBose, 81, of Gonzales, passed away Tuesday, August 24, 2010, in San Antonio. He was born November 4, 1928, in San Antonio, to Benjamin Harrison DuBose and Amelia Pagel DuBose. The family moved to the Smiley area when Blaxton was eight years old.  He attended and graduated from the Smiley School System.  The DuBose family had been members of the Pilgrim Presbyterian Church.  He joined the Merchant Marines after High School.  He married the love of his life Melva Louise Mills, on May 26, 1951, in Smiley.  Together they joined the First Baptist Church of Smiley.  Blaxton was a loving and caring husband to Melva for fifty-five years until she passed away on October 14, 2006, and Blaxton loved her still.  Blaxton had a hand in many ventures, he was active in the poultry industry, he had farmed watermelons, bred race horses, cutting horses, trophy deer, and raised cattle.  Blaxton was successful in producing oil and gas from his wells.  He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Independent Cattlemen’s Association, the Texas Southwestern Cattlemen’s Association, the Texas Trophy Hunter’s Association, the National Rifle Association, the South Texas Oilman Association; he was one of the founders of the Texas Trail Rider’s Association and was instrumental in the building of the Parsonage of the First Baptist Church in Smiley. Blaxton was the “Rock” of the family, he stood tall in the county he called home, Gonzales, and he will be remembered as a man whose word was gold.  Blaxton was a true gentlemen, he went out of his way to do the right thing, not the easy thing.  As a very social person, many knew him as an honest, loyal, Christian man who was always willing to help those less fortunate.   Of all his accomplishments, all his memberships and his thoughtfulness to others, his family will remember Harrison Blaxton DuBose most as a man who was passionate about family and he deeply loved and cared for them all.  He was preceded in death by his wife and parents. He is survived by his daughters, Yvonne Louise DuBose of Gonzales, and Mona Lois Bivins and husband David Wayne Bivins of Gonzales; grandchildren, Sascha Shay and husband David Kardosz, Tiffany Lee DuBose, Crystal Brooke Gray and husband Tim, Candace Lauren Ball, and Bailey Presley Bivins; and great grandchildren, Ashtyn Shay Kardosz, Addyson Colby Kardosz, and Blaxton Waylan DuBose all of Gonzales.
