Its still early in the political season but according to Waelder Police Chief Larry Stamps complaints are already trickling in to the Waelder Police Department concerning possible damage, theft or the removal of political campaign signs in and around the city of Waelder.
“The candidates have invested money into these signs and all of signs are the property of the respective candidates,” Stamps said. “We want to remind everyone that removing, damaging, defacing or stealing a campaign sign carries penalties of both fines and possible jail time.”
Stamps said he encourages everyone to respect the candidates’ property.
“This type of crime will only result in penalties for those who are tampering with the signs,” Stamps said. “The political process must remain pure with integrity on both sides of the election spectrum.
Anyone with information about a theft, removal of, or damage to any political campaign sign is asked to contact the Waelder Police Department at (830) 788-7270 or the Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office at (830) 673-6524.
“Your information in combating this crime will be greatly appreciated,” Stamps said.
