Fayette County Narcotics K-9 Unit Seizes 5 Kilos of Cocaine on Traffic Stop
Sheriff Keith Korenek reports that on Tuesday February 2, 2017, the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Canine Unit, Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K9 partner Lobos, stopped a Dodge Charger on Interstate 10 at the 663 mile-marker, at approximately 1:15 p.m. in the afternoon, for a traffic violation. After speaking to the driver about his travel itinerary which made no sense, and observing his raised level of nervousness when speaking about illegal drugs, Sgt.Thumann became suspicious that the vehicle may be involved in transporting illegal narcotics. Sgt. Thumann was given consent to search the vehicle. Sgt. Thumann searched the vehicle and located approximately 5 kilos of cocaine with an estimated street value of approximately $500,000 dollars.
