Bennie Lou Hedrick

Bennie Holland Hedrick has fought the good fight, she has finished the race, and she has kept the faith.
 
Now there is in store for her the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to her on that day – and not only to her, but also to all who have longed for His appearing.
 
Bennie died January 18, 2017 at the age of 89.
 
Private graveside services were held at George West Cemetery with Gary W. James, minister of Spiro, Oklahoma Church of Christ, officiating. Bennie is a member of the Church of Christ.
 
She was born to Bud (DL) Holland and Mae (Burkett) Holland, September 8, 1927, at Clegg, Texas in Live Oak County.
 
Bennie married Kennith Hedrick on June 10, 1952 in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Elbert Furman “Pat” Garrett Jr.

Elbert Furman “Pat” Garrett Jr., of Gonzales, passed away Monday, January 23, 2017.
 
He was born January 15, 1929 in Greenville, South Carolina, the son of Elbert Furman Sr. and Melvina Watson Garrett.
 
Pat joined the U.S. Army in 1945 and became a member of the U.S. Army Air Corps.
 
He served with the U.S. Army until the creation of the U.S. Air Force in 1947.
 
He then continued his long career with the Air Force attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant and retired on February 1, 1966.
 
During his military career, Pat served at many Air Force bases worldwide.
 
He was an aide to General Fredrick Smith, who at the time was Commander in Chief of European Forces.

Virgil LaVon “Boone” Dunkin

Virgil LaVon “Boone” Dunkin, 84, of Gonzales passed away Tuesday, January 17, 2017. Boone was born January 8, 1933 in Hannibal, Misssouri to Virgil Dunkin and Eula Silkey Dunkin. He was a member of Two Rivers Bible Church and United Teamsters #720.
 
Boone married Jan Hayes on September 20, 1991 in Garner State Park. Boone grew up in Aurora, Illinois, where he attended school and graduated from high school.
 
Boone immediately joined the USAF and worked as a meteorologist during the Korean War.
 
After being honorably discharged from the United States Airforce, Boone went to work for Pepsi Cola and shortly thereafter began a 35 year career with Yellow Freight where he made long and short hauls.
 
Boone loved to fish, fresh or saltwater really made no difference, he loved the sport.

Conrada (Cantu) Gonzales, 77, of Gonzales, Texas passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2017 at her residence.
 
Cremation Rites are under the direction of Buffington Funeral Home in Gonzales, Texas. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
 
Conrada was born on Sept. 8, 1939 in Fannin, Texas. She was the daughter of Anastacio and Matilda (Delosantos) Cantu. She was the wife of Ernesto Jimenez whom she met in 1985. She liked watching westerns on TV, especially, Gunsmoke. She also enjoyed listening to music and dancing.She enjoyed cooking for the family gatherings. Conrada was employed at Walmart for 26 years.

Thomas Edward (Eddie) Burrows

Thomas Edward (Eddie) Burrows was born Nov. 20, 1929, in San Antonio to Katherine Kempen Burrows and Thomas Edward Burrows.
 
He grew up in South San, one of five boys who loved baseball.
 
Eddie attended the University of Texas at Austin where he played on the NCAA National Championship team in 1949 and 1950.
 
Graduating with a bachelor’s degree, he first taught in La Grange for a year then volunteered for the Marines. As a Second Lieutenant he served as a forward observer in the Korean conflict.
 
Upon his return to civilian life, Eddie continued his profession as educator, first teaching and coaching in La Grange. There he met and married Mildred Schroeder. They moved to Gonzales where he taught, coached, and became elementary principal.

Tomasa Pineda April 21, 1943 January 4, 2017

Mrs. Tomasa Pineda went into the loving arms of God on Wednesday, January 4, 2017. She was born to Pedro Contreras and Inocensia Castillo in Gonzales, Texas. She was a fun, loving, caring mentoring woman who brough light to her family and those around her. Her smile will always be one to remember. She always kept her doors open to everyone. She was a caring person and was especially fond of her grandchildren. Mrs. Tomasa will be truly missed. She leaves her ways and teaching imbedded in the lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; David Pineda, five sisters and two brothers. She leaves to cherish her memory; three daughters; Gracie Pineda(wife, Marianella Garza), Janie Martinez(Daniel Pekar) and Mary Vega. One son; David Pineda(wife, Yolanda Pineda). One sister; Manuela Garza(Pat Garza), one brother, Juan Contreras and a host of nieces, Nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Professional Services entrusted to: Harris Funeral Home.
