Arno B. Nance – 1946-2016

Arno B. Nance, 70, of Cost, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016. Arno was born July 21, 1946 in Gonzales to Stanley and Ethel Mitchell Nance.

 

Arno had worked 37 years for Guadalupe Valley Telephone Company retiring in 2005.

 

He owned and operated the Long Branch Saloon in Gonzales for short period of time.

 

Arno was born and raised in Gonzales. He attended Gonzales schools and graduated from the Gonzales Independent School System in 1965 and shortly after graduation he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

 

Upon returning to Gonzales after his tour of duty with the Army, Arno went to work for GVTC.

 

He had worked his way through the ranks with the company retiring as the Fiber Optics Foreman.

David Mitchell – 1935-2016

Mr. David Mitchell, 81 of Cheapside, Texas passed away Dec. 7, 2016 at this residence.

 

He was the son of Thomas Mitchell and Everlee Page. He was born in Lexington, Texas, attended school Rockdale, Texas.

 

He moved to Cheapside and was a resident ther for more than 20-plus years.

 

He loved the outdoors fishing and Hunting.

 

He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters Traci Mitchell of Bastrop, Texas, Brenda Wilson of Woodsboro, Texas, Fay Dobbs, Victoria Texas.

 

Two Brothers, Hubert J. Jarmon, Bastrop Texas, and Thomas Perry Mitchell Jr. Engleside, Texas.

Charlotte Ann Pool Miller – 1955-2016

Charlotte Ann Pool Miller, 60, of Harwood, passed away Friday, Dec. 9, 2016. Charlotte was born Dec. 24, 1955 in Ft. Sumter, NC to Charles Alvin Pool and Rosemary Huff Pool Smith.

 

She married Barry C. Miller on Feb. 14, 2003 in the Harwood Baptist Church. Charlotte was a devoted member of the Harwood Baptist Church serving as the church Treasurer and was a dedicated member and ardent supporter of Gonzales Healthcare System’s Board of Directors.

 

Charlotte was born in Fort Sumter, NC, however she was raised in Sharonville, Ohio.

 

She attended school in Sharonville and graduated from Princeton High School.

 

She moved to Harwood, Texas at age 21 and worked in various clerical jobs until she joined American Fireworks as its office manager.

 

At American Fireworks Charlotte was popularly known as the Queen Bee.

Mary Ann Walraven Coolidge – 1932-2016

Mary Ann Walraven Coolidge was born on June 3, 1932 in Sterling, Colorado to John Wesley and Eva Walraven of Nebraska.

 

She went on to meet her heavenly Father on Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2016 in Midland, Texas.

 

Mary Ann was happily married to Donald D. Coolidge, the love of her life, for 65 years.

 

They married in Sterling, Colorado on Nov. 18, 1951.

 

She has called Midland her home since 1967.

 

Mary Ann was in sales most of her adult life, however, her passion was always her family.

 

She was a member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church and served on the Kitchen Committee, was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.

 

She served as a pink lady at Midland Memorial Hospital.

 

Her joys in life included being an excellent seamstress and flower gardening.

 

Her greatest passion was her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Virgil Vernon McCann – 1928-2016

Virgil Vernon McCann, age 88, of Smiley, passed away November 28, 2016 in Gonzales. He was born June 15, 1928 in Arenzville, Illinois. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Carl McCann and Audesta Boatman McCann; his son, Curtis V. McCann; a granddaughter, Brandi Barrientez; and nine brothers. Virgil married Virgie Brown on December 1, 1951 in Corpus Christi.

Carol Elaine Chapman

1964-2016

 

Carol Elaine Chapman, 52, of Austin, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016. Carol was born August 23, 1964 in Gonzales to Ivory Ray Chapman and Kathryn Marie Tucy Chapman.

She was a member of Holy Temple of Jesus Christ # 2 Church in Gonzales. Carol presently was working as the Director of Learning Support Services for the Austin Independent School District.

Carol was born and raised in Gonzales, attending local schools and participating in extracurricular activities.

She had been active in the Gonzales High School Band earning first chair first part in the clarinet section.

She was President of the student Body Council and graduated with the Class of 1982 the distinguished top 10 percent of her class. Carol graduated from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Betty Annette York Murphy

Entered Life: June 6, 1960 Entered Eternal Rest: Nov. 15, 2016

Mrs. Betty Annette York Murphy was born June 6, 1960 to Margaret Thron and O. J. McGee in Houston, Texas.

Her biological father was Mr. Wilbert York. Betty York went to be with the Lord on November 15, 2016.

For many years, Ms. Betty was the caretaker for Mrs. Della Carroll. Former Teacher here in Gonzales.

She later became the owner of Annette Cleaning service.

She was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church, Hallettsville, Texas She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership of Reverend Joe D. Johnson in Ricesville Baptist Church in Houston, Texas.
