Shirley Jean Dozier -- 193-2016

Shirley Jean Dozier, 83, of Gonzales, passed away, Saturday, August 6, 2016. She was born January 19, 1933 in Climax, Georgia, the daughter of Andy and Odessa Bailey Dragoin. She married Marcellus Cosby Dozier Jr. June 11, 1963 in Midland City, Alabama. She was a homemaker, a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and the Belmont Ladies Club. She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, loved dogs especially poodles, enjoyed reading, crocheting and collecting angels and cookbooks. She is survived by daughter Lisa Sue Speed and husband Thomas of Liverpool, England; step-daughters Michelle Lee Kimsey and husband Edward of Vail, AZ and Dawn Renee Deppe and husband Richard of Washington, MO; sons Gerald Bruce Long of Tallahassee, FL, Walter Anthony “Sonny” Long and wife September of Victoria, TX and William James Long of Adel, GA; brother William Dragoin and wife Carlanda of Americus, GA; 9 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and 14 Great-grandchildren.

William ‘Bill’ Wayne Mercier -- 1937-2016

William “Bill” Wayne Mercier, age 78, of Nixon, passed away on Monday, August 8, 2016 after a short stay in Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin. He was born November 29, 1937 to the late Wayne and Louise Mercier. Bill Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanie (Pruett) Mercier; his sons: Gary Mercier and wife, Gretchen, of Austin; Vic Mercier and companion, Gay Bruns, of Victoria; grandchildren: Tayler Mercier, Jennifer O’Neal and husband Denver, Aubrey Mercier, Joey Bruns, Amy Thompson and husband, Ashton; great-grandchildren: Henry Wayne O’Neal and Kadence Thompson; brothers: Donnie Christian and wife, Leana; Ronny Christian and wife, Shirley; numerous nieces, nephews, other loving family and friends; and his canine companions, Woody and Elle. After retiring from DuPont, Billy returned to his home town of Nixon to start a successful cattle ranching career. Billy was known for his steadfast dedication to his family and his community.

Sandi Kay Gandre -- 1948-2016

Sandi Kay Gandre, 68, of Leesville, passed away Tuesday, August 9, 2016. Sandi was born June 3, 1948 in Seguin, Texas to Gilbert and Annie May Wagner Soefje. She married Wilford August “Wil” Gandre on February 18, 1967 in Monthalia. She was a member of the Belmont United Methodist Church and the Belmont Ladies Club. Sandi grew up in the Belmont area; she attended school in Nixon and graduated Salutatorian from Nixon High School. She attended Southwest Texas State University before going to work for the Social Security Administration in Austin. Sandi later worked in a law office in Austin and a law office in Seguin. Sandi worked in bookkeeping for the Gonzales First National Bank and later worked for Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital and finally Wedgewood Laboratories in Seguin before she retired. Sandi wrote a popular community column she called “Sandi’s Country Fried News” for the local Gonzales newspapers.
